FLS Trainer Box Top Recall

Posted: 06-06-2016

Please note that this recall has now ended. Customers can now purchase the new box top separately if required.

Limbs & Things, Inc., with the support of SAGES, has initiated a voluntary recall program for the FLS Trainer Box Top. It has been reported to us that instruments and suture needles have become magnetized due to the strength of the magnets positioned to secure the skin frame. We believe that this has the potential to negatively affect the learning objectives of FLS, especially when used for FLS Certification Testing.

Despite thorough and rigorous product design, testing, and approval processes, these first generation Limbs & Things FLS box tops are no longer approved for FLS Certification Testing.

As soon as this issue was reported, our team of design and production professionals have worked diligently to understand and address the problem. It is in conjunction with SAGES that Limbs & Things will provide, free of charge, a replacement box top to all customers who have purchased one or more of the following items:

50302 – FLS Trainer Box with TV Camera
50304 – FLS Trainer System
50306 – FLS All-In-One Trainer System

Our records indicate that your organization has purchased one or more of these products and therefore is eligible to participate in the recall program.

To initiate the recall protocol, please contact Limbs & Things Customer Service prior to September 6th, 2016. Please have a few minutes available when you call so that we may explain the recall program to you and answer any questions. In the meantime, please place the enclosed stickers on your FLS box to caution users about the potential for magnetization of instruments and suture needles.

SAGES-ACS FLS Grants Limbs & Things Exclusive Rights For Sale of FLS Products

Posted: 04-13-2015

Limbs & Things, Inc. of Savannah, GA (LTI) is proud to announce that The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) FLS Committee has granted them exclusive rights for the sale and fulfillment of Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery™ (FLS) Training System, trainer box simulator and associated accessories and supplies for three years.

The simulator is a component of the FLS program that also includes a web-based educational module developed by SAGES, and now jointly offered by SAGES and ACS.  FLS incorporates hands-on skills training and an assessment tool to teach and evaluate the knowledge and skills required to perform basic laparoscopic surgery. For FLS Educational Packages, online access and testing vouchers, continue to order through SAGES at http://www.flsprogram.org, or call 310-437-0544 ext. 137.

LTI will supply a range of updated versions of the FLS Trainer Box that are designed to suit the individual needs of the surgical trainer and trainee. All the versions will allow for parts such as the camera and light source to be easily swapped out and replaced by the customer, avoiding, as far as possible, the need to send back Trainer Boxes to L&T for repair. All new task accessories we produce will be comparable to current FLS products being used across the globe.

The agreement provides surgical educators and laparoscopists at all levels of training, equipment and supplies with rapid fulfillment of orders and convenient online purchasing via a secure e-commerce system that will be available later this month.

FLS Opens International Test Centers, Issues 10,000 Certification

Posted: 04-09-2015

The SAGES/ACS Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Program is celebrating two major milestones in 2015 with the opening of International FLS Test Centers in France and Saudi Arabia and having issued a landmark 10,000 FLS certifications. These remarkable achievements follow on the heels of the FLS program’s 10-year anniversary last October.

  • Expanding FLS training and certification beyond North America has been a main focus in recent years. The newly established test centers at  IHU Strasbourg-IRCAD in Strasbourg, France and King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will help address the growing international demand for a reliable and valid process for testing of competence in basic laparoscopy. • According to Dr. Allan Okrainec, FLS Committee Co-chair, “these new Test Centers, along with our Test Centers already up and running in Singapore (Khoo Teck Puat Hospital) and Israel (Bnai-Zion Medical Center), will further elevate the standards of training for laparoscopic surgeons, enhancing operating performance worldwide.”
  • SAGES congratulates Dr. Christopher Crawford on becoming the 10,000th surgeon to successfully complete the FLS Program! Dr. Crawford is a chief resident in general surgery at Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin and a SAGES Candidate Member. Upon completing his residency, he will continue his training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s MIS Fellowship Program.
